STORY CHAITRY GULAB COLLECTION GIFTING ENTER THE HARVEST

✦   HALDIGHATI, RAJASTHAN   ✦

Once a year,
a rose blooms.

The Chaitry Gulab of Haldighati flowers for a single month each spring. We gather it by hand, at dawn, before its fragrance meets the sun. Everything we make begins there.

THE STORY

A valley that holds
memory in its soil.

Haldighati. The name translates as "the pass of turmeric" — named for the gold-tinged earth that has coloured Rajputana history. It is the same soil from which the Chaitry Gulab draws its singular character: a fragrance so dense and layered that it has been coveted by perfumers and Ayurvedic physicians for centuries.

We did not invent this rose. We preserved it. For generations, local farmers and Vaidyas kept the Chaitry cultivation alive, knowing what the season asked of them: patience, labour, and absolute respect for the harvest window.

The Haldighati Rose Co. was built to bring this knowledge forward — not as nostalgia, but as the foundation of something enduring. Every bottle, every jar, every measure of attar carries the precision of traditional extraction and the rarity of a bloom that answers only to its own calendar.

BLOOM WINDOW · MARCH TO APRIL

Not every rose
earns its name.

The word Chaitry comes from Chaitra — the first month of the Hindu lunar calendar, falling between March and April. It is the month when winter releases its hold on the Aravalli hills and the rose fields of Haldighati ignite in bloom.

Unlike commercially farmed varieties that bloom repeatedly through selective breeding and chemical forcing, the Chaitry Gulab is bound to its season. It cannot be rushed. The result is a concentration of volatile aromatic compounds, flavonoids, and therapeutic constituents that are measurably richer than those found in year-round cultivars.

"A rose that blooms only once does not offer its gifts lightly. The Chaitry teaches restraint — and in that restraint, there is extraordinary depth."

Ayurvedic texts reference the Shatapatri — the hundred-petalled rose — as a cooling, heart-nourishing botanical of the highest order. The Chaitry Gulab is this rose. Its oil calms excess Pitta. Its preserved form restores digestive fire. Its water tones, hydrates, and carries the intelligence of the plant deep into the skin.

We harvest only what the season allows. When the harvest closes, it closes. There is no second pressing, no off-season substitute. This is not a limitation — it is the entire point.

WHY THE CHAITRY

What the season
concentrates,
science confirms.

The Chaitry Gulab is not distinguished by marketing. Its superiority is botanical and biochemical — rooted in the conditions of a single valley, a single spring, and a cultivation tradition that has never chased volume.

01
RICHER VOLATILE COMPOUNDS

The limited bloom season produces higher concentrations of citronellol, geraniol, and nerol — the molecules responsible for both fragrance depth and anti-inflammatory action.

02
PITTA-PACIFYING BY NATURE

Harvested as Chaitra transitions into the heat of summer, the rose carries peak cooling properties. Classical Ayurveda places this variety at the apex of Sheetala botanicals.

03
SKIN INTELLIGENCE

The naturally occurring tannins and flavonoids in Chaitry Gulab water tone and tighten without stripping — a result impossible to replicate with year-round cultivars.

04
DIGESTIVE RESTORATION

Gulkand made from the Chaitry variety carries stronger carminative and hepatoprotective properties. In traditional Vaidya practice, it was specifically prescribed.

05
UNDILUTED ORIGIN

We use only Chaitry Gulab from Haldighati. No blending with other regions, no off-season supplements. When the harvest ends, the batch closes.

06
TRADITIONAL EXTRACTION

Deg-bhapka for attar. Solar infusion for gulkand. Steam distillation for rose water. Each method is chosen for the formulation it creates, not for speed.

WHAT THEY SAY

"This is not a product.
It is a memory."

The gulab jal is unlike anything I have used. I have tried French rose waters, Bulgarian varieties — nothing smells this true, this deep. You can tell it came from somewhere specific.

N
NANDITA S.Mumbai — skincare formulator

I gifted the attar set at my sister's wedding. Every person who received it asked where it came from. The packaging alone held its own against international luxury brands.

ROHINI K.Delhi — luxury event curator

As someone trained in Ayurveda, the distinction between their gulkand and what you find in shops is not subtle. It is a completely different category of product. Therapeutically and sensorially.

THE GIFT OF RARITY

When the occasion asks
for something that cannot be repeated.

A Chaitry Gulab harvest comes once. The gift you give from this harvest cannot be given again next week, or made in a larger factory. That singularity — of place, of season, of craft — is what you are offering when you gift The Haldighati Rose Co.

THE FULL STORY

"Some places carry
their history in the earth itself."

Haldighati is known to history as the site of a 1576 battle — the valley where Maharana Pratap rode against the Mughal forces of Akbar. The turmeric-gold soil, the narrow pass between the Aravalli hills, the story of a land that refused to yield. But there is another story, quieter and longer, that belongs to the same soil.

For as long as anyone can trace, the villages around Haldighati have cultivated the Chaitry Gulab — a rose variety adapted to the specific altitude, mineral composition, and seasonal rhythm of this valley. Unlike the Damask rose cultivated in Kannauj or the varieties grown in Rajasthan's commercial rose belts, the Chaitry is not a high-yield crop. It blooms once, briefly, in the weeks surrounding the Chaitra festival. It does not wait for a convenient harvest schedule.

Local Vaidyas — traditional Ayurvedic physicians — maintained their own Chaitry gardens for generations, using the petals in formulations prescribed for cooling the body through the intense Rajasthan summer, calming excess heat in the digestive system, and as a nervine tonic for stress and sleeplessness.

The Haldighati Rose Co. began with a single question: why is this rose not known beyond this valley? The answer was neither mystery nor failure — it was simply the nature of the flower. Rare things do not scale easily. They require either compromise or commitment. We chose commitment.

Every product we make begins with the same harvest window. When Chaitra arrives, our partner farmers — families who have tended these fields across generations — begin the pre-dawn collection. Petals gathered before sunrise carry the highest concentration of volatile aromatic compounds. By mid-morning, they have already begun to diminish. The timing is not poetic preference. It is biochemistry.

What follows is traditional processing: copper-vessel steam distillation for rose water, solar infusion for gulkand, deg-bhapka for attar. No industrialisation. No solvent extraction. No shortcuts. And when the harvest closes — it closes. There is no reserve batch. No year-round production. The next collection comes with the next Chaitra.
